Excellent question.<\/p>\n<div class=\"cb-advice\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.advicelocal.com\/advice-local-resources\/voice-search-guide\/?utm_source=Blog_Banner&#038;utm_medium=Blog_Content_Banner&#038;utm_campaign=Blog_Banner&#038;utm_content=voice_search_guide_ad_download\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"700\" height=\"250\" src=\"https:\/\/www.advicelocal.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/voice-search-guide-ad.png\" class=\"acb-banner-image\" alt=\"Download the Voice Search for Local Businesses, Franchises and Brands Guide [ad]\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.advicelocal.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/voice-search-guide-ad.png 700w, https:\/\/www.advicelocal.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/voice-search-guide-ad-300x107.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>Voice search optimization is really just SEO, but more specifically an SEO strategy \u2013 the using of long-tail keywords within a website\u2019s content.<\/p>\n<h2>Necessities for Creating Voice Assistant-Friendly Content<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Researching questions that consumers are asking relating to your client\u2019s products and\/or services<\/li>\n<li>Including these questions and answers to answer the query within the business\u2019 website content<\/li>\n<li>Adding FAQ schema on the pages that include these questions and answers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We have discussed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.advicelocal.com\/blog\/how-to-guide-long-tail-keywords-voice-search-optimization\/\">voice search optimization<\/a> and long-tail keywords before. Once you have an understanding of the keywords and keyword phrases consumers are searching that relate to your client\u2019s products and services, you are ready for the next step \u2013\u00a0applying intent.<\/p>\n<p>A desktop search for <em>A\/C service<\/em>; <em>best times to get an A\/C serviced<\/em>; <em>best times to get an A\/C service in McKinney<\/em> are going to vary greatly. I actually did these same searches in 2019 and have screenshots available at the link above.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-12593\" src=\"https:\/\/www.advicelocal.com\/images\/ac-voice-search-example.jpg\" alt=\"AC Service Voice Search Example\" width=\"1000\" height=\"356\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Applying Intent to a Voice Search Query<\/h2>\n<p>Today, I did those exact queries mentioned above with the Google Assistant on mobile. The results were as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The query <em>AC service<\/em> returned a search result for Carrier\u2019s website and then a few other options.<\/li>\n<li>The second query, <em>best time to get an AC serviced<\/em>, returned a single answer \u2013\u00a0a featured snippet from a business\u2019 website that answered the specific question.<\/li>\n<li>The third query, <em>best time to get an AC service in McKinney<\/em>, returned a single local business result for the closest AC company.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The main point here is that while each of the voice searches were similar, Google perceived each to have a different intent. A typed search result is going to differ greatly from a voice search result. In order to get a business to appear in voice searches more often, you must consider intent as it relates to your client\u2019s products and\/or services. But, that\u2019s not all you have to consider.<\/p>\n<h2>Natural Language and Voice Search Go Hand-in-Hand<\/h2>\n<p>To help the businesses you represent surface for voice search queries, it\u2019s about aligning the long-tail keywords with the intent on a website. It\u2019s also about using <a href=\"https:\/\/www.advicelocal.com\/blog\/natural-language-voice-search-optimization\/\">natural language for voice search optimization<\/a>. This is writing in a way that consumers would actually speak or ask their voice assistant a question.<\/p>\n<p>There is more to ranking in voice search besides this, however. I <a href=\"https:\/\/www.advicelocal.com\/blog\/analyzing-voice-search-ranking-factors\/\">analyzed ranking factors that influence voice search<\/a> awhile back. I found a few factors to be important \u2013 page speed, HTTPS, brief-informative answers within in-depth content, authority over the subject matter, strong backlinks and ultimately, getting the featured snippet.<\/p>\n<h2>Voice Search Is Continuing to Grow in Popularity<\/h2>\n<p>Over the coming years, voice search is going to continue to skyrocket to new levels. You don\u2019t hear about it as much today because the fact is, now everyone is accustomed to it! Since it\u2019s not the new best thing it means there\u2019s plenty of opportunity for you as a local marketer to leverage it for your local business clients. There are still many businesses that are <em>not<\/em> optimized for voice search.
