This applies to every element of the listing, from selecting a business category to uploading images. Google has very specific directions when it comes to the kind of photos they allow on their business listings. If you don\u2019t follow their guidelines, the images could get taken down, buried by other content, or even damage the brand.<\/p>\n<div class=\"cb-advice\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.advicelocal.com\/products\/locator-pages\/?utm_source=Blog_Banner&#038;utm_medium=Blog_Content_Banner&#038;utm_campaign=Blog_Banner&#038;utm_content=locator_pages_learn_more\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"700\" height=\"250\" src=\"https:\/\/www.advicelocal.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Locator-Map.png\" class=\"acb-banner-image\" alt=\"Advice Locator Map [ad]\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.advicelocal.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Locator-Map.png 700w, https:\/\/www.advicelocal.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Locator-Map-300x107.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<h2>2017 Google <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Business Profile<\/span> Image Sizes<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Profile image &#8211; 250 x 250 pixels (minimum 120 x 120; maximum 5200 x 5300)<\/li>\n<li>Cover photo &#8211; 1080 x 608 pixels (minimum 480 x 270; maximum 2120 x 1192)<\/li>\n<li>Shared images &#8211; 497 x 373 pixels (minimum width 497; maximum 2048 x 2048)<\/li>\n<li>Between 10KB and 5MB<\/li>\n<li>PNG or JPG files<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Additionally, the photos should be high-quality and in focus, without excessive filters or editing.<\/p>\n<p>When uploading images, you\u2019ll notice there are several different types of photos that can be added to a Google <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Business Profile<\/span>. Today, we\u2019ll share some of those.<\/p>\n<h2>Image Guidelines for a Google <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Business Profile<\/span><\/h2>\n<h3>1. Preferred Photo<\/h3>\n<p>This is the image the business would like displayed in Google Maps and Search results. Keep in mind that a preferred photo is only a recommendation and Google will ultimately choose which photo is shown first. Since Google is all about trying to enhance the user experience, they take several factors into consideration when ranking photos. These include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Size<\/li>\n<li>Quality<\/li>\n<li>Content (Google tends to rank photos of real images higher than logos. The more relevant the picture is to the nature of the business, the better chances it has to rank higher and appear as the preferred photo).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There is still a chance of seeing pictures from other sources &#8211; such as other Google users and online sources &#8211; next to the business listing in search results. Since <a href=\"\/blog\/google-my-business-photo-mishap\/\">publicly-sourced photos are not always flattering<\/a>, it\u2019s best that the business takes control by uploading its own images. Following Google\u2019s guidelines increases the chances the preferred photo will show up in search results. To update the preferred photo, click on the three-dot menu icon and select from Cover or Profile.<\/p>\n<h3>2. Additional Photos<\/h3>\n<p>Google also suggests uploading additional <a href=\"https:\/\/support.google.com\/business\/answer\/6123536\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">business-specific photos<\/a> to help customers understand what the business has to offer. For instance, businesses should include images featuring:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The store or office exterior. Add at least three images of the building to make it easier for customers to recognize the business from any direction.<\/li>\n<li>The business&#8217; interior. Add at least three photos that\u00a0capture the atmosphere of the business, such as common areas, spa, gym, or dining area.<\/li>\n<li>Popular products and services. Include at least three photos of the products and services offered\u00a0by the business.<\/li>\n<li>Team members. Add three or more photos of employees and management to humanize the business.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>What NOT to Do<\/h2>\n<p>It\u2019s very important to adhere to Google\u2019s standards if you want the business listing to be as successful as possible. For instance, a restaurant could include a photo of a menu and the sign out front. However, in most instances, Google doesn\u2019t look kindly upon pictures that only feature text.<\/p>\n<p>Businesses should also stay away from the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The picture can\u2019t be copyrighted.<\/li>\n<li>It can\u2019t be a screenshot.<\/li>\n<li>It must be good quality.
